What Are Steroids?

Steroids, or “anabolic steroids,” are man-made chemicals that are closely related to testosterone and other natural androgenic hormones.

Steroids work by increasing the rate of protein synthesis within muscle cells. This results in bigger, stronger muscles and a harder, leaner physique. They also have a powerful virilizing effect, including the development of male secondary sexual characteristics, like the excessive growth of the body and facial hair.

Anabolic steroids have been used since at least the 1930s. They were first used by German scientists to treat depression and hypogonadism in children and young adults. It wasn’t long before athletes noticed the performance-enhancing benefits of steroids.

By the mid-1950s many Olympic athletes including Soviet weightlifters were using an injectable form of testosterone to get an edge over their competition [1]. By the early 1980s, anabolic steroids were mainstream and easily accessible to the general population.

Steroids are a very powerful tool for boosting muscle mass and athletic performance. However, there is also a dark side to steroids. They have many side effects and can damage your heart, liver, kidneys, and many other organs.

Many bodybuilders have even died prematurely due to elevated blood pressure following long-term steroid use [2]. Other side effects of steroids may include erectile dysfunction, shrunken testicles, reduced sperm count, infertility, breast development, increased risk of prostate cancer, and stomach pain.

Anabolic steroids are also illegal in most developed countries, including the United States. On the other hand, anabolic steroids are widely available without prescription in some countries, like Thailand or Mexico [3].

Signs Of Steroid Use

There are many physical signs that you can look for in someone to figure out whether they are using steroids. Check it out:

  • Incredibly Muscular
  • Mood Changes
  • Accelerated Balding
  • Bloated Stomach
  • Very High Libido

Let’s take a closer look at each of these signs.

The most obvious sign of long-term steroid use is an incredibly muscular physique.

Most people can build a very impressive physique within 3-5 years of training. However, many fitness models, competitive bodybuilders, and actors playing superhero roles are using drugs to build their incredibly muscular physiques.

If you see someone build 20-30 pounds of muscle in 10-12 weeks, then the odds are very high that they used steroids to speed up their progress.

Another visible sign of steroid use is acne on the shoulders or upper back. Skin that was previously fair and smooth begin breaking out, causing small red spots or infections. Strange odors are also a sign that a person uses steroid creams [4].

Other signs of steroid use include accelerated balding, a bloated stomach, or an extremely high libido.

Is Joe Rogan On Steroids?

Is Michael Phelps really a natural athlete? Or did he use anabolic steroids to get an unfair advantage over his fellow Olympic athletes? Let’s look at the facts before jumping to any conclusions.

Joe Rogan has the following signs of long-term steroid use:

  • Insanely Muscular Physique
  • Growth Hormone Gut
  • Massive Head / Skull
  • Rapid Body Transformation

As you can see, Joe Rogan has many of the usual signs of a steroid user.

First of all, Joe Rogan has an insanely muscular physique. Joe is 5 feet 7 inches tall and absolutely ripped at 190 pounds.

This is an incredible achievement, and very close to the upper limit of what most bodybuilders can achieve naturally. That’s just it though – Joe Rogan isn’t even a bodybuilder! He mostly trains for mixed martial arts, a sport most fighters look athletic, but nothing like professional bodybuilders.

Joe Rogan also has a very large, distending stomach.

This is sometimes called a “growth hormone gut” as it is caused by heavy growth hormone and insulin use. Even when Joe is very lean, his stomach sticks way out in front of the rest of his body.

Another dead giveaway that Joe Rogan might be on steroids is his massive skull.

Growth hormone does more than just grow your stomach – it also causes your skull to increase in size. Joe Rogan’s skull looks almost as big as Dwayne Johnson’s, which means that he probably uses a lot of growth hormone.

The truth is, Joe Rogan has openly admitted to using performance enhancing drugs. He believes they are a viable option for individuals who want to improve their performance in the gym, and are prepared to deal with the negative side effects and health consequences.

Joe has also mentioned on numerous occasions that he is on testosterone replacement therapy, but also on human growth hormone. His goal is not bodybuilding or muscle growth – he just wants to keep his T-levels in a normal range and give his body more opportunities to stay healthy and repair after working out.

According to an interview, he follows a strict TRT plan under medical supervision [5, 6].

The verdict is clear: yes, Joe Rogan used steroids to take his physique to the next level. Today he uses a doctor-prescribed hormone replacement therapy protocol, including a therapeutic dose of testosterone and growth hormone, to keep his hormone levels optimal as he ages.

Joe Rogan Before And After Steroids

Joe Rogan started using testosterone replacement therapy in his late 30s. However, he openly admits to using steroids long before this. Let’s take a look at some pictures to show you what I mean.

On the left is a picture of Joe Rogan long before he got serious about lifting weights and started taking steroids. Joe has a lean, athletic physique but it is nothing compared to his physique on the right.

Joe Rogan clearly used anabolic steroids throughout his career, and his physical transformation is clear proof of this. Today Joe Rogan is on a hormone replacement therapy program which allows him to maintain his physique even as he gets older.

Legal Steroid Alternatives?

Joe Rogan used anabolic steroids to build his incredible physique. However, they are probably not a good idea for most people. Steroids are illegal in the United States and most developed countries, and they can be extremely dangerous when used improperly.

Fortunately, you don’t have to use steroids to build an impressive physique. All it takes is a proper diet, a great training program, and 1-5 years of hard work.

If you want even faster results, then you may want to look into “legal steroid alternatives,” such as ecdysterone.

Ecdysterone has taken the fitness world by storm. Sense 2015 there have been an army of studies showing that ecdysterone is incredibly effective at building muscle mass and strength.

One recent study showed that ecdysterone is as effective as many traditional steroids, such as dianabol, for building muscle mass and strength [7]. Others show that ecdysterone can increase muscle protein synthesis by an unbelievable 20% in trained subjects [8]!

Is this even possible? Can a legal steroid alternative really produce steroid-like results? According to the latest scientific research, the answer is a resounding “yes.”

Best of all, ecdysterone has no long-term side effects in humans.

If you want to get started with ecdysterone, then we strongly recommend the company Huge Supplements. They manufacture 100% of their products right here in the United States, so you know you are getting the highest quality product available anywhere in the world.

Testosterone Therapy vs. Steroids

Testosterone replacement therapy is one of the safest and most effective treatment options for men suffering from hypogonadism, or low testosterone levels.

The basic idea is to supplement your body’s natural testosterone production with a prescription testosterone medication, so you can raise your testosterone to the high end of the normal, healthy range.

In other words, the goal is to raise your total testosterone to the level of a healthy 20 year old male. This is completely different from something like anabolic steroids, where the goal is to raise the muscle-building hormones to dangerously high levels.

Testosterone therapy has many benefits for men, including increased energy levels, improved bone density, and improved cardiovascular health [9, 10, 11].

Fountain TRT is one of the most trusted online TRT providers in the United States. Founded by a board-certified urologist, they make it as easy as possible for you to optimize your testosterone levels and begin experiencing all of the benefits of a doctor-supervised TRT protocol.

Joe Rogan And Steroids | Verdict

What’s the verdict – does Ben Johnson use steroids?

The answer is yes – Ben Johnson used steroids during the Olympic Games to get an unfair advantage over his competition, and in the end, he paid the price.

Ben Johnson doesn’t have any of the obvious signs of long-term steroid use, such as a square shaped physique, a bloated growth hormone stomach, or overdeveloped traps. However, he did test positive for anabolic steroids on multiple drug tests, and that’s good enough for us.

Rumor has it that Ben Johnson used dianabol and Winstrol to improve his athletic performance.

It’s a shame that such a talented athlete decided to cheat by using illegal drugs, but such is life.
