What Are Steroids?

Paulo Costa is constantly being accused of using steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, so it only makes sense to take a closer look at these drugs.

Steroids are man-made chemicals that mimic the effects of testosterone in the human body.

They were originally used by researchers to treat men and young boys suffering from hypogonadism, or low testosterone levels. However, they were quickly used by weightlifters and other athletes who wanted to improve their athletic performance.

Today steroids are illegal in the United States and most first-world countries. However, they are still relatively popular, despite their status as an illegal drug.

At least 1 million men in the United States has admitted to using steroids before, and they are just as popular in other countries around the world [1].

So, what are the benefits of steroids?

Research shows that anabolic steroids are incredibly effective for boosting muscle mass, muscle strength, cardiovascular endurance, and many other factors of athletic performance [2].

Some users find steroids are also extremely effective for losing body fat and building a lean, athletic physique. Unfortunately, anabolic steroids are extremely dangerous, and have many nasty side effects.

Studies show that steroids can cause long-term damage to many different parts of the body, including the cardiovascular system [3] [4].

The idea of using anabolic steroids may be tempting, but the harsh side effects are enough to dissuade

Signs of Steroid Usage

How can you tell if someone is using steroids? Our favorite strategy is to look and see if they have any obvious signs of long-term steroid use.

Here are some of the most common side effects associated with anabolic steroids:

  • Massive Head / Skull
  • Superhuman Strength
  • Extreme Vascularity
  • Red / Flushed Skin
  • Yellow / Oily Skin

Let’s take a closer look at each of these side effects.

A common sign of steroid use is a massive head / skull. Some drugs like growth hormone actually change the shape of your skull, giving it a large, round appearance.

If you have a friend with a skull bigger than Joe Rogan’s, then they may be using growth hormone and other performance enhancing drugs.

Another obvious sign of steroid use is superhuman strength. Many steroid users get really strong, really fast – even when they are training like my 80 year-old grandma. If you see someone who is freaky strong in the gym without actually training hard, then they might be on gear.

Other signs of steroid use include extreme vascularity, red / flushed skin, or even yellow / oily skin.

Is Paulo Costa On Steroids?

Is Paulo Costa really a drug-free athlete? Or is he using anabolic steroids to get an unfair advantage over his competition? Let’s look at the facts before jumping to any conclusions.
Paulo Costa has the following signs of long-term steroid use:

  • Insanely Muscular Physique
  • Growth Hormone Gut
  • Impressive Muscle Thickness
  • Completely Shredded

Paulo Costa is one of the most muscular athletes in the UFC, and by looking at his physique, he clearly has some common signs of steroid use.

The most obvious sign that Paulo Costa might be on gear is his insanely muscular physique.

Paulo Costa is absolutely ripped with a very muscular upper body. His physique is so impressive that it’s hard to believe he achieved it as a natural athlete.

Remember, most UFC fighters are performing a tremendous amount of cardiovascular training to get in shape for their fights. It would be one thing if Paulo Costa was just lifting weights, but the fact that he could build this physique while training as a drug-free UFC fighter is a little hard to believe.

Paulo Costa also has a slightly bloated stomach. In many photos, it looks like his stomach is bulging out in front of the rest of his upper body.

This is very common with bodybuilders who abuse drugs like insulin and growth hormone, as these drugs cause the intestines to increase in size, which then push out against the abdominal wall. Paulo Costa’s growth hormone gut is another clear sign that he might be juicing.

Paulo Costa has always denied using steroids, but there have been rumors from UFC insiders that he is using gear. Check it out:

  1. In 2019, Costa was scheduled to face off against Ronaldo Souza at the UFC 230. However, the United States Anti-Doping Agency launched an investigation against Costa that prohibited the fight from taking place.

Later it was made public that Costa had received intravenous infusions (more than 100 mL) within 12 hours after the weight-ins in June 2017 at UFC 212, and again at UFC 217.

2. There have been allegations from individuals like Israel Adesanya, saying that Costa has to be using juice. And looking at his before and after pictures below, it’s easy to see why.

Obviously, the allegations that Costa is on actual steroids come for reason.

The reason is his dramatic change in physique. He used to be built like a normal guy, with a decent amount of muscle mass, with fat covering this.

This changed quite dramatically, however, as it was discovered that he had lost most of that fat whilst also increasing his muscularity – which he sustains. This is quite hard to do, as having less fat with more muscle is the holy grail to some, and to others, a sign of Steroid use.

So what’s the verdict? Has Paulo Costa used steroids?

There is some evidence to support this claim, including his rapid physique transformation, his history of intravenous infusions right before his fights, and allegations from other individuals within the UFC.

However, there is no “smoking gun” that confirms our suspicions. It’s extremely possible that Paulo Costa is natural, and has never used performance enhancing drugs.

Overall we think there is a 50 / 50 chance that Paulo may have used steroids during his career.

Paul Costa Before And After Steroids

Paulo Costa has many of the usual signs of long-term steroid use, such as an insanely muscular physique, a growth hormone gut, and impressive muscle thickness.

But did he always look this way?

The truth is, Paulo Costa always had a very muscular looking physique. Even in his early 20s Paulo had six-pack abs and a very muscular looking upper body.

When he started competing in the UFC his upper body exploded in size, which is one of the reasons many people think he may have used steroids.

Legal Steroid Alternatives?

In our opinion, anabolic steroids are not a great choice for most people.

Steroids are very effective for building muscle mass and strength, but they also have many dangerous side effects that you have to watch out for.

Fortunately, you don’t have to take anabolic steroids to transform your physique. Today there are many “legal steroid alternatives” that you can take to get steroid-like results, but without any of their side effects.

There are many legal steroid alternatives on the market today. However, ecdysterone is by far our #1 recommendation.

Here’s what you need to know: ecdysterone is a natural substance found in many insect species.

Insects produce ecdysterone because it dramatically speeds up their growth and development. However, research shows that ecdysterone works just as well in humans for building muscle mass and strength.

So how effective is ecdysterone?

The latest research shows that it is as effective as many anabolic steroids, including dianabol! This may sound too good to be true, but the research doesn’t lie. Ecdysterone works by directly increasing the rate of protein synthesis inside your muscle cells.

One study shows that you can expect up to a 20% increase in protein synthesis, which is truly remarkable [5, 6].

Here are a few of the benefits that you can expect when using ecdysterone:

  • Faster Muscle Mass Gains
  • Improved Body Composition
  • Increased Strength Gains
  • Decreased Muscle Soreness

Best of all, research shows that ecdysterone has almost zero side effects in humans – other than a bigger, stronger physique.

There are a lot of great companies selling ecdysterone. However, our #1 choice is Huge Supplements. They have some of the best reviews in the fitness industry, superior customer service, and extremely fast shipping.

Testosterone Therapy vs. Steroids

Testosterone replacement therapy is a breakthrough treatment option for men with signs and symptoms of low T.

The primary goal of TRT is to use a prescription testosterone medication to raise your total testosterone levels to the high end of the healthy, normal range.

This will eliminate your symptoms of low T, plus give you many other benefits, including [7, 8, 9]:

  • Improved Metabolic Markers

  • Improved Sexual Function

These are just a few of the benefits of TRT. Covering all of them would take an entire article!
Don’t worry – testosterone therapy is completely different from something like anabolic steroids.

Testosterone therapy is designed to optimize your body’s natural hormone production, while anabolic steroids are used to raise the user’s testosterone levels to dangerously high levels.

Testosterone therapy is perfectly safe, especially if you are working with an experienced TRT doctor.

Paulo Costa and Steroids | Verdict

What’s the verdict – does Paulo Costa use steroids?

It’s hard to say fore sure, but we believe that Paulo Costa probably used anabolic steroids during his professional UFC career.

Paulo Costa has many of the usual signs of long-term steroid use, such as an insanely muscular physique, a visible growth hormone gut, and a completely shredded upper body.

Under normal circumstances, it would be hard to say Paulo Costa is on gear using this evidence alone. After all, there are many gifted drug-free athletes who are actually bigger than him. However, Paulo made a rapid change in his physique as a fighter, and many UFC insiders, such as Israel Adesanya, have accused him of using steroids in the past.

Based on all of this evidence, we think that Paulo Costa probably used anabolic steroids in the past.

Of course, you don’t have to use steroids to build a great physique. If you have good genetics, a great training program and diet are all you need.

On the other hand, if you are suffering from symptoms of low T, then a doctor-supervised testosterone replacement therapy may help you build the physique you want.

Fountain TRT is our #1 recommendation for a reliable online TRT provider, as they make it as easy as possible for you to get started with testosterone therapy.

If you aren’t ready to get started with testosterone therapy, then a great legal steroid alternative like ecdysterone is another fantastic option.
