What Is Testosterone Therapy and Who Is It For?

Testosterone is a hormone that is naturally produced by the human body. As with most hormones, adequate levels are required to maintain optimum health.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy, or ‘TRT’ for short, is a term used to describe a number of medical treatments that can assist men (and occasionally women) who have low testosterone levels.

While low testosterone levels are not a life-threatening emergency, there are a number of good reasons to get treatment if your levels of this important hormone are low.

Studies show that men with low testosterone levels often experience a variety of symptoms that can decrease quality of life, including:

  • Low sex drive and difficulties with sexual performance [1]
  • Feeling lethargic, fatigued and low in energy [2]
  • Difficulty regulating moods, including feeling depressed [3]

In addition, low testosterone is associated with some medical issues, such as:

  • Weight gain and difficulty building lean muscle mass [4]
  • Reduced bone density, strength and overall impaired physical function [5]
  • Increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes [4]

Age-related decline is the most common cause of low testosterone, but there can be other reasons [6].

To get the optimal treatment, it is important to see a Doctor who specializes in testosterone replacement therapy. They will be able to conduct a full assessment of your symptoms, overall health and diagnose the underlying cause of your low levels. This will ensure that you get the right treatment and achieve the best results.

Testosterone replacement therapy can be life changing, particularly if you have been struggling with low levels for a while.

Some of the benefits reported by patients and proven through medical studies are:

  • Restoration of sex drive and sexual difficulties like erectile dysfunction [7]
  • Improvements in depression, focus, and overall mood [8]
  • Reductions in whole of body fat mass and increase in lean muscle [9]
  • Increase in bone density, strength, and overall physical performance [10] [11]
  • Positive changes in energy levels [2]

Therapy Clinics in Kansas City

What to Look for in a Kansas City Testosterone Clinic?

Considering the benefits of testosterone replacement therapy, it is no surprise that this treatment has become popular in Kansas City.

While TRT is generally safe with minimal side effects [12], it is important to remember that it is a medical treatment that involves some risk and should only be provided by suitably trained professionals.

There are now a large number of clinics offering testosterone replacement therapy in Kansas City, making the choice of who to go to for treatment a little difficult.

While most clinics are trustworthy and offer a good service, there are some things to be mindful of when choosing a provider in Kansas City.

A good TRT clinic will:

  • Clearly state the Physicians or Medical Doctors that will be involved in your care, including their name, credentials, and experience.
  • Place an emphasis on diagnosing the cause of low testosterone levels.
  • Offer a variety of treatment methods, such as injections, gels, and patches. This is important because different treatment methods will have pros and cons depending on your situation [13].
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of treatment.

Warning signs of a potentially bad TRT clinic:

  • Offer ‘hassle free’, ‘easy’, or minimal assessment before prescribing treatment.
  • Not list identifying details and background information of Doctors providing treatment at the clinic.
  • Only have one form of treatment available, such as weekly injections that you need to attend the clinic for each time.

I can not thank Dr. Pownall enough. I was nervous at first, but Dr. Pownall not only put my fears at ease he gave more than enough knowledge that not even my primary care physician (which I have been going to for over 5 years) could shared with me. He was open and honest and explained each step of the consult in great detail. I have started TRT and did the Priapus procedure and it saved my marriage and changed my life significantly. I only wish I could have you as my primary care doc. Thanks again !! Side note the team in place there are amazing as well.

I have been very impressed with the KC men's clinic - from the first phone call, to the doctor exam, to the followup - very professional and caring - it is very rare in today's busy world and the whole "covid thing" to find such caring and compassionate people

I accompanied my husband today to visit Dr. Coody and his staff. Not knowing what to expect, we were both kind of nervous but the staff was nothing short of awesome. We were treated like we had known each of them for years and they made that super uncomfortable guy conversation easy. Everyone was friendly and easy going and was just, very real I guess you could say. The office was clean and inviting and relaxing. I was pretty impressed. It wasn’t that awkward dr/patient conversation everyone dreads. Every single person we encountered today made this visit worth it. We laughed and joked but were very serious as well. We were able to set up a treatment plan as well as a very affordable payment plan. All of our questions were answered as well as some questions we never thought to ask. I absolutely would refer anyone to this practice and my husband looks forward to continuing his care with the office. Thank you all so much for everything and making this a fun time to remember 😉😉😉 we truly appreciate it!!!!!

After 10 years of embarrassment of not being able to perform. And then the pain of trying to use a pump. The Staff at the Kansas City Mens Clinic were able to explain to me my options and why my other prescriptions of ED medication‘s were not working.I’m so glad that I took their advice. And spent the money to try their system. Which proved beneficial last night and this morning to the first unrestricted sex I’ve had in over 10 years.Don’t wait as long as I have to make a change in your life

I live an hour and a half away. I talked to a provider about prp for a torn rotator cuff injury i have and he said he would get back to me. Over a week later no contact. When I call to talk to the provider, I'm told he is busy and they will let him know. That day no call. I call again and I'm told he is out on Friday and they will have him call me first thing Monday. No call. I'm on trt with them and it's hard to get help maintaining correct levels with them it's almost nonexistent. I'm 100% disabled combat veteran that can't receive the help I need to live a normal healthy lifestyle with this clinic.Update....Since this incident the doctor owned the mistake and apologized. Supper professional and went out of his way to take care of me. He takes time to explain everything, and very knowledgeable. Friendly nice people.

After learning that it’s best to find a dentist who is on my Delta dental insurance and also on my medical insurance, I did my homework researching for a new dentist. When I found Dr. Hormozdi with Google review of 5 stars, I was excited and made an appointment right away.During my first visit, I was advised to do a deep gum cleaning even though my teeth are overall healthy and in good shape, none of my previous dentists had suggested that. Though I might have a choice to decline the service, I still paid $288 out of my own pocket for the service as I was already sitting in the service chair. I didn’t like the feeling of being pressured for additional service and fee that I was not expected.I also checked with the front office to find out which dental insurance they like working with, Delta was one of them. After two visits, I kept receiving emails to refer friends to receive $20 reward, which is annoying.Today, I received a call and text from his office asking me to call Delta as Delta indicated that I had another medical carrier, which I don’t (medical and dental only). I had never received such a letter or needed to call my dental insurance company for my previous dentists before. When I called Delta, they said they sent the same summary of claim to his office and to me, Dr. Hormozdi’s office just needed to write the quadrant of deep cleaning and resubmit it again. I called his office to tell the front office what they need to do.If you like the unepexted service/fee, if you like receiving referral emails frequently, if you like to do their work (calling the dental insurance company) for them, feel free to choose him as his dentist.I am very disappointed with the whole experience and now I wonder how he got the Google 5 stars review.
Every single person in this building is awesome. I was nervous to come in at first, and now I feel at home. I have a busy work schedule, and they are very accommodating. I always look forward to my weekly visit.
