What Are Steroids?

Steroids are man-made chemicals that mimic the effects of testosterone and other muscle-building hormones in the human body.

Anabolic steroids, or AAS for short, are known to dramatically increase muscle mass, muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance in trained subjects [1].

Some athletes have used steroids to make faster progress in the gym and get and extra edge over their competition. In fact, a whopping 6.4% of all men in the world have likely used AAS at some point during their life [1].

Steroids have many benefits including increased protein synthesis and improved nitrogen efficiency. However, steroids also many side effects. Some of these side effects can be very dangerous, depending on the amount of steroids that an individual uses.

A meta analysis performed in 2021 found that Steroids can cause the following issues [2, 3]:

  • Reproductive issues
  • Kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • Blood lipid disregulation
  • Gynecomastia

As they say, “there is no free lunch.” If someone chooses to use steroids, then they must be aware of the potential risks and side effects.

Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs are banned in most professional sports, including the Olympics and most American sports. However, some athletes are willing to use anabolic steroids, even if they are illegal or banned in their chosen sport.

Signs Of Steroid Use

Steroids are popular among bodybuilders and other athletes who want to bulk up as fast as possible. If you want to spot a steroid user, then all you have to do is look for a few common signs in their physique.

Here are some of the most common signs of long-term steroid use:

  • “Square” Shaped Physique
  • Massive Head / Skull
  • Growth Hormone Gut
  • Red / Flushed Skin
  • Overpowering Body Parts

Let’s take a closer look at each of these signs.

One of the most obvious signs of long-term steroid use is a “square” shaped physique. Steroid users tend to have blockier, puffed out physiques, as the steroids make their muscles blow up in size.

Another big sign of long-term steroid use is a massive head or skull.

Research shows that growth hormone and other drugs actually increase the size of your skull. If you see someone with a head the size of Dwayne Johnson then the odds are very high they are using growth hormone and other drugs.

Other signs of steroid use include a growth hormone gut, red / flushed skin, and overpowering body parts.

If someone has some or all of these signs, then the odds are very high that they are on performance enhancing drugs.

Zac Efron signs of Steroid Use

Is Zac Efron really a natural athlete? Or did he use anabolic steroids to get an unfair advantage over his competition? Let’s look at the facts before jumping to any conclusions.

Zac Efron has the following signs of long-term steroid use [4, 5]:

  • Insanely Muscular Physique
  • Completely Shredded
  • Red / Flushed Skin

The biggest sign that Zac Efron might be using steroids is his insanely muscular physique. Zac’s physique was absolutely insane in the 2017 movie Baywatch. He had ripped six-pack abs and impressive shoulders and arms.

Zac was so jacked for this role that he looked big even when standing next to the mighty Dwayne Johnson! Zac says that gained 10 pounds of muscle mass and lost a bunch of body fat to get ready for this role. This kind of transformation is almost impossible for a natural athlete, which means Zac probably used steroids leading up to Baywatch.

Zac Efron has other obvious signs of steroid use, such as his completely shredded physique, and his red / flushed skin.

The High School Musical is completely ripped year-round. In fact, it’s almost impossible to find a photo of him where he does not have visible six-pack abs! Most natural athletes have a hard time staying this lean year-round, as men’s hormones start to decline when they get too lean.

Zac also has red / flushed skin – a clear sign that he is using large doses of testosterone and other performance enhancing drugs.

So what does Zac have to say about these accusations? Zac Efron has never denied using steroids. He simply avoids the topic, and lets people believe what they want to believe.

If he was truly “natural,” then he would probably deny using steroids.

The bottom line is Zac Efron probably used anabolic steroids to get ready for Baywatch and other Hollywood movies. He clearly worked hard to build his iconic physique, but performance enhancing drugs were probably part of the equation.

Zac Efron Before And After Steroids

Zac Efron has many of the usual signs of long-term steroid use, such as an insanely muscular physique and red / flushed skin. But did he always look this way?

The truth is, Zac Efron looked like a regular guy for his breakout role in High School Musical. Even in movies like Neighbors, Zac had a physique that most people can achieve naturally.

It wasn’t until his leading role in the 2017 blockbuster film Baywatch that Zac really started to show signs of steroid use. His physique blew up in size, and he really began to show long-term side effects of performance enhancing drugs.

Zac’s rapid body transformation supports the idea that he has used anabolic steroids.

Legal Steroid Alternatives?

Zac Efron may have used anabolic steroids to get ready for his role in the blockbuster movie Baywatch, but that doesn’t mean they are a good choice for everyone. Steroids have many serious side effects, and can be extremely dangerous when used improperly.

Fortunately, there are many “legal steroid alternatives” that you can use to transform your physique.

One of the hottest legal steroid alternatives on the market today is called ecdysterone.

Ecdysterone is a natural substance found in many insect and plant species, such as spinach and quinoa.

Many fitness experts have started supplementing their diets with ecdysterone, as new research shows it is extremely effective for building muscle mass and strength. One recent study found that ecdysterone can increase protein synthesis levels by up to 20%, while another found that ecdysterone is as effective as many anabolic steroids, such as dianabol [6, 7].

Most users also report screaming fast strength gains the first few weeks they are on the product.

Best of all, ecdysterone is a natural nutritional supplement with zero long-term side effects. Unlike anabolic steroids, ecdysterone does not impact your hormone levels, so you don’t have to worry about it impacting your health.

There are many great companies selling ecdysterone, but our favorite by far is Huge Supplements. They manufacture their ecdysterone right here in the United States, so you know you are getting the highest quality product for your money.

Testosterone Therapy vs. Steroids

Are you suffering from low testosterone levels? Maybe you noticed your energy levels are less than what they used to be, or that it’s harder to recover from intense workouts.

If so, then you may be a good candidate for testosterone replacement therapy.

Testosterone therapy, or TRT, is a way for men with low testosterone levels to safely replenish the testosterone that they used to produce on their own. Most patients find they can safely raise their total testosterone levels to the high end of the normal range, thus giving them many benefits like improved energy levels, enhanced libido, and an improved overall quality of life [8, 9, 10].

There are many online TRT providers to choose from, but our favorite is Fountain TRT. They use a simple 3-step process with all of their patients to make it as easy as possible for you to get started on your doctor-supervised TRT protocol.

Zac Efron and Steroids | Verdict

So what’s the verdict? Is Zac Efron on Steroids?

We think there is a good chance that he used them to prepare for his role in Baywatch. You just have to look at the pictures and spend a few weeks trying to gain muscle yourself to know he probably used something to speed up his progress… and it probably wasn’t creatine.

Zac had to really step up for his role in Baywatch, sharing the screen with Dwayne Johnson puts huge pressure on you. Even more so when your character is a rival for Dwayne’s character.

While there is no official statement, looking at the effects we can associate with steroids users, and the fine but vivid details in his physique change, we think it’s pretty evident that Zac probably did use steroids for his dramatic 20 pound transformation.
